Marion Lafayette Gilbert, 87, of Bates City, Missouri, left this earth to be with our Lord and his beloved wife, Betty, on Thursday, April 7, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 13th at First Baptist Church of Oak Grove; burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the church.
Marion was born February 20, 1929 in Nebraska, the son of William and Oma (Steinbrook) Gilbert. He retired from General Motors Fairfax Assembly Plant, after 37 years. Marion enjoyed gardening, fishing, stacking wood, going to the boat, and watching baseball and football.
Marion is preceded in death by his wife, Betty in 2014; 2 sons: Ray Squires in 2011, Willie Gilbert in 2005; 1 daughter, Jeanie Georgieff in 2013; and 1 brother, William Gilbert Jr.
His survivors include 4 sons: Richard Squires (Donna) of Blue Springs, MO, Edward Gilbert (Carolyn) of Lee’s Summit, MO, Junior Gilbert of Bates City, MO, and Steve Gilbert (Becky) of Topeka, KS; 4 daughters: Lorrie Andrews of Gravois Mills, MO, Kathy Gilbert of Versailles, MO, Linda Dendish of Oak Grove, MO, and Dink Foster (Oscar) of Bates City, MO; daughter-in-law, Sharon Squires of Holden, MO; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Marion was loved by all who knew him and will be very sadly missed.
