
Edward Lee Gower, 90, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2016 at St. Luke’s Hospice House, Kansas City, MO. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 8th at First Baptist Church of Oak Grove; burial in Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church. Contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Oak Grove.
Edward was born March 4, 1926 in Independence, Missouri, the son of Thomas M. and Ethel (Castle) Gower. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Edward married Erma Shepherd on July 3, 1949. He was a clerk at the post office, and enjoyed farming, splitting wood, drinking coffee, camping, going to Silver Sneakers, and going out to eat for breakfast.
Edward was preceded in death by his wife Erma on January 25, 2014; an infant daughter, Ruth Gower; a son, Douglas Gower; a grandson, David Gower; his parents; and two brothers, Herb & Cecil Gower.
His survivors include two daughters: Karen Woods of Bates City, MO, and Twana Gower of Oak Grove; two granddaughters: Angela Hannah (Dave) of Parkville, MO, Brandy Carroll (Matt) of Oak Grove, MO; 5 grandsons: James Rissler (Sarah), Jared Rissler (Angie), Dennis Gower, Dillon Gower of Oak Grove, MO, Daniel Gower (Heidi) of Grand Cayman; 13 great-grandchildren: Maddison and Cole Hannah, Mackenzie, Tristen, Mercedes, Elaina, Jacob, Johnnie and Justin Rissler, Kade, Kally Gray, and Hank Carroll; daughter-in-law Donna Gower of Oak Grove, MO; brother, Bob Gower (Peggy) of North Kansas City; two sisters-in-law, Yvonne Gower of Blue Springs, MO, and Liz Gower of Concordia, MO; and many nieces and nephews.
