In lieu of flowers, you may make donations to Joshua Center for Neurological Disorders.
Dan was born in Independence, MO on August 25, 1957, the fifth of five children, to Frank S. Greene and Dorothy L. McIntosh Greene. The family moved to Grain Valley, MO when Dan was six years old, where Dan graduated from Grain Valley High School. He attended several years of college. Dan worked at Armco and then at many computer related jobs before accepting a job with DST Systems, Inc. Dan quickly was promoted over the years, serving first as a programmer, and advancing to Director of Software Engineering. He was sent to England, using it as a base for trips to various European countries, then later to Thailand. He had worked for more than 24 years at DST before taking an early retirement in June, 2018.
Dan met his wife, Loretta A. Janner, when his sister, Cathy, invited him to join them at the bowling alley. It didn’t take long for Dan to realize that Loretta was the woman for him. They had three children together and were married for 35 years.
Dan was always learning about some project he wanted to accomplish. There was metal work, wood work, gardening, solar power, ceramics, cooking, and many computer related projects. Always looking for ways to “save the world”. He was excited about exercising. Dan used his lawn mowing time to meditate. His phone was very much attached to him, always talking or texting with someone. When young he developed a passion for swimming. Dan excelled with many awards, but he also enjoyed teaching anyone how to swim. He loved watching JEOPARDY and storms rolling in.
Though he sometimes seemed to be gruff, Dan always was ready with a laugh and quick joke, even at himself. Growing up as the youngest of a large family, he had no illusions that he had to talk fast and loud to be heard. But that wasn’t a problem for Dan. He always held his own.
He loved his family, including his beloved wife, Loretta, his daughter, Savannah, his twin sons, Ian and Colin, and his granddaughter, Adriana (AJ), with all his heart. They meant the world to him and he was looking forward to sharing more time with them when he retired. He lived a life filled with hard work, laughter, and adventure.
Dan is preceded in death by his father, Frank Greene; his mother-in-law, Mary Jo Armilio Janner; sister-in-law, Marcia Goodwin Greene; brother-in-law, Dr. Brown Hamer; brother-in-law, Donald Basinger; sister-in-law, Diane Janner Gallegani; brother-in-law, Charles S. Meiners; nephew, Joshua Greene; and best friend, Dennis Doty.
Survivors are wife, Loretta; daughter, Savannah Freemyer; sons, Ian and Colin Greene; granddaughter, Adriana Jade Freemyer; mother, Dorothy Greene; brothers, Michael (Deb) Greene and Tim (Linda) Greene; sisters, Sally Hamer (Bill) and Cathy Basinger; and a multitude of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
