Linda K. Grubb

Linda Kay (Webb) Grubb, 71, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2019.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 25th at Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove; burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Linda was born March 21, 1948, in Buckner, Missouri, the daughter of Bob and Erma Webb.  Erma attended Central Business College in Kansas City, MO.  Bob attended Missouri State University at Columbia, MO for 3 years, studying to be an analyst, but had to quit his junior year because his father died.  He was a farmer until his death in 1974, raising corn, wheat, soybeans, Hereford Cattle, Hampshire Hogs, and horses.  Every year, they had new chicks which was Linda’s job.  Summer vacation for Linda was not really a vacation.  Instead, it was spent tending to chickens, gathering eggs, and feeding pigs, horses, and each spring, baby chicks.  Other responsibilities included mowing the large yard, tending the garden, cutting volunteer corn out of soybean fields, cutting thistle from all the pastures, pulling weeds out of fencerows, cleaning out the chicken house and changing straw in the nests on a 90 degree day, and all the other “fun stuff” that kids do when they lived on a farm.  There were no TVs, no personal telephones, no computers, no swimming pools, and no vacations.  Her family worked hard all summer.  They had to be very conservative with water.  It was always hard for Linda to drive by a house in the summer with water sprinklers on, especially on days it was pouring down rain.  It seemed so wasteful!  She always said, “We had conference calls telephones back in the 50s…we just called them party lines!”

Linda loved square dancing and danced for 40 years.  She belonged to the Lotawana Sailors and the Ride Thru Time Galaxie Car Club.  She had been to every state but Maine.  Linda loved wild animals and fed all the coons, skunks, possums, foxes, coyotes, and lots of stray cats – a natural garbage disposal.  She belonged to the Oak Grove Seniors, which met once a month for a big meal, and the Oak Grove Historical Society.  Linda was the great-granddaughter of Confederate Soldier Francis Marion Webb, who fought in the Battle of Lone Jack.  She belonged to Bethel #48 Job’s Daughters in Buckner, MO, and was a past Honored Queen in 1964.

Linda’s survivors include her husband of 25 years, Raymond Grubb of the home; stepson, Scott Allen Grubb (Shana) of Oak Grove; step-grandson, Steven Allen Grubb (Shelby) of Oak Grove; and step great-grandson, Bryson Allen Grubb.
