Doris Janice Lewis, 83, of Independence, Missouri, went to be with her heavenly family on Wednesday, September 6, 2017. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 16th at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Janice was born on February 9, 1934 in Smithton, Missouri, the daughter of Walter and Margie (Bridges) Ditzfeld. They later moved to Kansas, where Janice graduated from Robinson High School. In 1952, she married the love of her life, Jerl Lee Lewis, and relocated to the Kansas City/Independence area, where they worked and raised their four children.
Janice is survived by one son, Tony of North Dakota; two daughters: Cheryl and Kathy both of Independence, MO; grandchildren: Chris, Bryan, Traci, Jessica, Jeramy, Chad, Angi, Ami, and Aleai; many great-grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis Miley; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son: Daniel, and two grandchildren.
