
Minnie Elizabeth Melton, 100, of Higginsville, Missouri, passed away Saturday, February 20, 2016. A visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, February 26, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Higginsville. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 26, 2016 at the church with a burial in Corder Calvary Cemetery following.
Minnie was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1915 in Tecumseh, Nebraska to Martin and Sophia Rubink Oellerich. She married George Melton December 15, 1947. Preceding her in death are her husband George and sisters Dorothy, Frieda, Lula, Mary, Margaret and Renie, and brothers Hank, Ed and Carl.
She is survived by three children: Daughters Vickie (Jim) Aversman of Leesburg, FL and Patricia Melton of Blue Springs, MO, and son Marty Melton (Barbara) of Kimberling City, MO. Two Grandsons, Ryan (Krista) Aversman of Peachtree City, GA, Jordan Aversman of Cincinnati, OH, one step-grandson Nick Rhodes of Kimberling City, MO, Two great-grandsons, Landon and Blake Aversman of Peachtree City, GA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Minnie was a homemaker who also enjoyed several jobs while raising her family. She especially enjoyed being the cook for Head Start in Corder for 10 years. She and her husband George were longtime residents of Corder and were active members of the Corder Baptist Church. They later moved to Batesville, IN where they were members of the Batesville Baptist Church where friendships were formed and both are remembered fondly.
After returning to Missouri in 2012 Minnie was a resident at Meyer Care Center. She enjoyed the visits of many longtime friends during her stay. Memorial gifts suggested to Crossroads Hospice or the Building Fund for the First Baptist Church of Higginsville, where Minnie was a member.
