
Meredith Joy Montgomery, 79, of Blue Springs, MO, passed away on June 10, 2016. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 16th at Royer-Hays Funeral Home, Blue Springs. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Animals Best Friends, P.O. Box 493, Independence, MO 64051.
Meredith was born on June 21, 1936 in Blue Springs, Missouri, the daughter of Kathryn Montgomery (Ford) and Joyce Montgomery. Her maternal grandparents were Mayme and Albert Ford, who for many years owned and operated the Ford’s Store and Kathryn’s Baby Shop in downtown Blue Springs.
Meredith was a graduate of Blue Springs High School and attended Central Methodist College for two years. She was a longtime resident of Independence, Missouri and was employed at Business Men’s Assurance, Lake City Ammunition Plant and worked for Social Security Administration before retiring.
A lover of the theater, Meredith and her mother were season ticket holders at Starlight Theater since it opened in 1951, and she participated in many productions at the City Theater in Independence, both on and offstage. Meredith observed Christmas well, creating the most beautiful bows and packages to place under the tree.
Meredith was one of “The Girls” —- a group of graduates from Blue Springs High School from ’53, ’54 and ’55 –- who meet reguarly to laugh about the old days and enjoy life.
She held animals near and dear to her heart, riding horses when she was younger and being the mother to a variety of cats and dogs. Meredith is survived by her cousins Carrie, Ewing and Melissa Ford, was loved by many and will be missed by all.
