
Thomas Edward Newberry, 94, of Odessa, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home August 20, 2016, surrounded by his loved ones. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 24th at the Oak Grove Church of Christ. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 23rd from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. at Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove. Additional funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 26th at the Moody Church of Christ, Moody, MO; burial following in Moody Cemetery.
Born November 20, 1921 in Moody, Missouri, he was the son of John Alfred and Emma Jane (Andrews) Newberry. On December 10, 1948, he married Betty Jean Midkiff in Clinton, Missouri.
Mr. Newberry was a veteran of World War II, having served with the Army Air Corps on an airbase in northern India, as part of the China-Burma-India Theater. He received his training in electronics and airplane mechanics at Shepherd Field TX, Detroit MI, and Walla Walla WA. He retired as a machinist from Fike Metal Corp.
Mr. Newberry was a member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ for 50 years. He was the preacher at Odessa Church of Christ from 1963 to 1966, and preached part-time for several congregations for many years.
Mr. Newberry is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty Jean Newberry; 2 daughters: Leny Elliott (David) of Searcy, AR, and Shirley Newberry of Odessa, MO; daughter-in-law, Liz Newberry of Pleasant Hill, MO; 5 grandchildren & their spouses: Paul & Melinda Newberry of Independence, MO, Rebecca Gowen of Benton, AR, Patricia & Col. Ryan Pace of Judsonia, AR, Amy Elliott of Searcy, AR, and Carley Newberry of Kansas City, MO; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Earl Newberry of Denver, CO; 1 sister, Wilma (Joe) Wolverton of Grain Valley, MO; and several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 son, Paul Edward Newberry; 4 brothers; and 6 sisters.
