Mary Evelyn Sawyers, 80, of Independence, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, August 8, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 15th at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence; burial in New Salem Cemetery, Independence. The family will greet guests from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Mary was born on February 10, 1938 in Decatur, Iowa, the daughter of Willard Warren and Maxine (Kizzire) Sams. She worked as a special fill processor for Hallmark, retiring in 1994. Mary was an avid reader, loved gardening and flowers, and will be remembered for her sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd Lee Sawyers; one son, Allen Sawyers; two sisters, Dorothy Moon and Donna Ledbetter; and one brother, Tom Sams.
Mary is survived by two sisters, Kay and Fay Sams; daughter-in-law, Alice Sawyers; three grandchildren: Christopher Sawyers, Becky Hulett (Caleb), and Amy Sawyers; three great-grandchildren: Brady Hulett, Claire Hulett and Nevaeh Borawski, all of Independence; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
