Vera was born on July 28, 1923 in Russell, KS, the daughter of Walter and Bessie (Herron) Scott. She graduated from Russell High School in May of 1941 and then attended Southwestern
Bible College in Waxahachie graduating in 1943. From there, Vera moved to Wichita, KS, and was a “Rosie the Riveter” at the Aero Apprentice sub plant building B-52’s till the end of WW2. Following the war, she went back home to the wheat fields of Russell, KS, and worked at the Home State Bank in downtown Russell. Vera was a member of the Assembly of God Church and taught Sunday school.
While she was back home, Vera met her husband Paul E Spengler I. They were married on March 29, 1951 and moved to Independence, MO. They were members of the Englewood Assembly of God Church and taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She had a heart for children and loved them like her own. She served in many areas of the church, in her neighborhood, and in Independence. Vera was her family’s number one prayer warrior and loved spending as much time as she could with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a blessing to us all and we’ll miss her, but we know we’ll see her soon.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 69 years (as of March 2019) Paul; and two sisters: Ethel Snelling and Margurite Muncaster.
She is survived by her son, Paul E. Spengler II (Linda) of Sugar Creek, MO; daughter, Kim Pasquale (Mike) of Independence, MO; five grandchildren: Christopher Pasquale (Megan), Rachel Pasquale, Laura Pasquale, Lauren Spengler, and Caleb Spengler (Alyssa); ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
