Betty L. Wright


Betty Lou Wright, 87, of Buckner, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2017.  Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 17th at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence, MO.  The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, please send donations to VFW Post 8101 Women’s Auxiliary.  

Betty was born February 19, 1929 in Skidmore, Missouri, the daughter of Christie Rudalph and Rachel Stella (Morris) Michaelis.  She worked in the food service industry at Haas Restaurant, John Knox and Rest Haven Nursing Homes.  Betty was an active member of VFW post 8101 women’s auxiliary in Buckner, where she also enjoyed Friday community music night.  She was known to her family and friends as a caregiver and a master at jigsaw

 puzzles. She enjoyed fishing and playing canasta, and even taught her children the game. Betty always had her orange Tic Tac’s and Tootsie Rolls or as the grandkids called them “Chewies”.

Betty is survived by her daughters: Sharon K. Oligmueller and Debra J. (Curt) Crandall, both of Buckner; sons: Douglas A. (Janice) Wright of Oak Grove, MO and Kelly R. (Patti) Wright of Kearney, MO; six grandsons; twelve great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters; three brothers; son-in-law, Roger Oligmueller; and grandson, Todd M Oligmueller.

  1. I was only able to really meet her once and that was at her grandson’s wedding to my daughter Katie. She glowed with pride as she watched them get married and as she danced with her grandson at the reception. It was evident how much love there was between her and her family. God bless all of you as you grieve her loss. May she be remembered always as the loving matriarch of a very fine family. Love to you all ~ Celeste Barrett
