Darrin D. Brownlee


Darrin Dewayne Brownlee, 49, of Independence, MO passed away April 13, 2021. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Royer’s New Salem Funeral Home; Independence, MO. Funeral service to follow at 12:00 p.m.

Darrin was born July 20, 1971 in Kansas City, MO to Precious & Nellie (Browder) Brownlee. He worked for the Blue Springs School District as a custodian for 21 years. Darrin was a member of Paradise Care Club. He enjoyed fishing with his mother and brother. Darrin loved to feed everyone his BBQ.

Darrin was preceded in death by his father and grandmother.

Darrin is survived by his wife Brandy; mother: Nellie Brownlee; daughter: Karisa Starr; sons: Preston Cowick (Gena), Darrin Brownlee, Jr “DJ” (Kayla); daughter: Autumn Rayne Cowick; 2 grandchildren: Amiyah Pruitt, Paxton Frankie Cowick; 2 brothers: Demetrius Brownlee (Deitra), Fred Brownlee (Nancy). Darrin also leaves behind an enormous amount of friends.

  5. Dear Nellie, Demetrius (D) & family,
    Our hearts were saddened to hear of Darrin’s passing. (We loved watching Darrin & D grow up.)
    We are so blessed that God allowed our paths to cross. First as neighbors on 23rd and then colleagues in the BSSD schools.
    Darrin’s smile was infectious!! He made our day when we saw him at home & at school!! He was so positive & uplifting when talking with him.

  8. It seems the great ones are taken way too early. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time. I had the pleasure of working with Darrin for 10 years at Blue Springs South. He will be missed. Amazing man.

  9. just knew him for a little while meet him at football practice the only thing I’d say he was such a friendly sort and always had a big smile on his face I know things were rough for you folks, but he didn’t let that bother his jolly attitude know how much he will be missed prayers

  10. Dearest Nellie and Family, I am so sad to hear about the passing Darrin. I have many memories of him from work at Builders Square and also living across the street from my parents. I remember his big smile to this day. My heart aches for your loss. I pray our Lord will wrap his loving arms around each of you and help to bring some comfort and peace during these difficult days. You are in my thoughts and prayers today and in days ahead.

  15. Darrin was always a bright spot in my day at school. If we, the teachers, needed anything we went to him instead of the offices. We knew who made things work in our building . It was a privilege to know a guy like him. So sorry he’s gone so soon.

  20. Deepest Sympathy to Brandy,children, family, and Nellie. I’m at a loss for words hearing about Darrin. We worked together years ago. Darrin had the biggest heart, infectious smile and laugh! Family and his children were always main priority. Nellie and Precious raised an amazingly kind, selfless son..
    Whenever I think of Darrin I remember his sense of humor, and I smile. Rest in peace sweet friend.
