Mae E. Cline


Mae E. Cline, 101, of Oak Grove, MO, passed away July 3, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Blue Springs. She was born September 22, 1912 near Carrollton, MO, the daughter of Wilbert & Estella Mae (Liller) Haines.

Mae married Hershel F. Cline on June 2, 1934 and he preceded her in death in 1987. Brothers Paul, Orin, Bill, & Robert Haines, and sisters Mary Ellen Thomas & Lucille Stagner also preceded her in death.

Mae received a BS in Education from Warrensburg University in 1936 and attended the University of Wyoming two summers. She was a teacher for 40 years, having taught in these schools: Round Prairie near Oak Grove for 9 years; Sni Mills for 2 years; 8 years at Reber, near Buckner; Bates City for 1 year; Oak Grove for 1 year; Hickman School near Ruskin Heights for 1 year; Independence School System for 18 years at William Southern and Oldham. She retired from teaching in 1973.  Mae served many years on the Central Republican Committee of Lafayette County, and was a member of the National, State, and County Federated Republican Women’s Clubs.  She was a member of the Oak Grove Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School classes and worked with the Fellowship of Christian Women.

Her survivors include a brother: Howard Haines of Englewood, CO; 7 nieces and 10 nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Monday, July 7, 2014 at the Oak Grove Christian Church, 118 W 22 Street, Oak Grove.  Funeral services will be 1 pm Tuesday, July 8 at the church. Burial in Sni Mills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Oak Grove Christian Church or Show-Me Christian Homes.
