John Anthony Hankel, 88, of Lenexa, Kansas passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2019. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a rosary at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 8th at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, MO. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 9th at Church of the Santa Fe, Buckner, MO; military honors at 12:00 p.m. in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, MO.
John was born on September 16, 1930 in Kansas City, MO, son of John and Maria (Michenfelder) Hankel. He graduated from St. Benedicts He was a Korean War Veteran, an Iowa nation insurance adjuster and mail carrier. John was an avid marksmen and competitor Black Powder Long Range competitions.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Verna May in 2001. John’s survivors include his son, Matt Hankel (Jan) of Gladstone, MO; 2 daughters, Aimee Hankel of Sanford, FL and Jennifer Luechtefeld (Bill) of Lenexa; and grandson, Gunther Luechtefeld of Lenexa.
