Delno L. Hayes


Delno Lee Hayes, 78, of Grain Valley, Missouri, passed away Monday, March 10, 2008 at St. Luke’s Medical Center East, Lee’s Summit, MO. A Graveside service with Military Honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 14th in Valley Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley. The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 13th at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley. Contributions may be made to the American Stroke Foundation, 5960 Dearborn, Mission, Kansas 66202.

Delno was born on June 29, 1929, in Galena, Kansas, the son of William and Alma (Gillbert) Hayes. He married Gladys L. Compton on October 28, 1950, and she preceded him in death in March of 2002 after 51 years of marriage. Delno served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the American Legion Post 499. He worked for Mesco, Inc. in Blue Springs, MO, as a Plant Manager, retiring in 1994 after over 30 years of service. Delno was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish & hunt. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather.

In addition to his wife, Delno was also preceded in death by one brother, Pat Hayes.

His survivors include three sons: Larry Hayes of Grain Valley, Garry Hayes & his wife, Debbie of Grain Valley, and Kerry Hayes & his wife, Beth of Oak Grove, MO; four grandchildren: Christy Havard & her husband, Jeremy, Garry W. Hayes, Stacy Hayes & Kelsey Hayes; two great-grandchildren: Gracie & Savanna Havard; four brothers: Bud Hayes, Gene Hayes, Bernard Hayes & Warren Hayes; and one sister: Mildred Hart.
