Joe Larry Heatherly, 56, of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away Thursday, September 6, 2007 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, September 10th at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, MO. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 11th at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Disabled American Veterans.

Joe was born August 27, 1951, in Springfield, Tennessee, the son of James L. and Clara M. (Braswell) Heatherly. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He married Ellice M. Brooks on September 18, 1971. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans.

His survivors include his wife of 35 years, Ellice Heatherly of the home; three sons: Joseph Heatherly of Lincoln, NE, Derrick Heatherly & his wife, Amy of Odessa, MO and Jacob Heatherly of the home; one daughter: Mary Ellen Cahill & her husband, Matt of Blue Springs, MO; three brothers: James Heatherly, Jerry Heatherly & Timothy Heatherly, all of Tennessee; two sisters: Eva Brigman & Joyce Pendelton (Joe’s twin), both of Tennessee; and five grandchildren: Devon, Matthew, & Madison Cahill, and Alyssa & Justice Heatherly.
