Robert P. Shores

Robert Paul (Hobbs) Shores, 58, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away peacefully in his own residence on Thursday, October 28, 2021.

Born in Mobile, AL to David P. Hobbs and Shirley M. (Ramsey) Shores, Robert and his mother moved to the Kansas City area at a young age. He attended Shawnee Mission Schools before later graduating from Van Horn High School in December 1980. Shirley married Eugene R. Shores in 1978 and on April 8, 1987, Robert was adopted by Eugene and took the Shores name.

In the Fall of 1979, he met Diana L. Tipton while square dancing in Lee’s Summit, MO. As a surprise to most, she made the first move. He clearly obliged because they were soon an inseparable pair. They dated for 5 years before committing to marriage on March 10, 1984. Together they have three sons.

Robert and Diana lived with their children in Independence, MO before moving to Oak Grove, MO in 1997. Robert was an active sports dad. He attended hundreds of baseball, football, and basketball games for his sons and grandsons. And coached many of his sons’ baseball teams. Robert had a passion for youth athletics and a strong desire for all children to be able to participate regardless of their situation. He loved his small town and was a 3-year member of the Fire Board.

Robert loved to travel with his wife, family, and friends. He has been to numerous countries including Italy and Ireland and all over the United States. He is a member of Ararat Shrine Temple and The Royal Order of Jesters Court 54 in Kansas City, MO. He was a lifelong Chiefs fan and 30+ years season ticket holder. He enjoyed home improvement projects, evening boat rides on the lake, and driving around town with his grandchildren.

Robert has worked in security for over half his life. But he is an accomplished businessman in many fields.

Although, you may no longer see his name appear on your caller ID, his infectious smile, humor, and laughter will live on in the memories of those who loved him.

Survived by his wife Diana L. Shores; 3 sons: Robert R. Shores (Mandy) of Oak Grove, MO, Eugene Shores (Riley) of De Witt, NE, and Paul Shores (Samantha) of Oak Grove, MO; 6 grandchildren; Mother, Shirley Shores; In-laws, Robert and Charlene Tipton of Oak Grove, MO; and numerous other family members.  Preceded in death by his Father, Eugene R. Shores.

Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2021, at Royer Funeral Home in Oak Grove, MO. The Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at St. Jude Catholic Church in Oak Grove, MO.  Donations can be made in Robert’s name to Shriners Hospitals for Children.

~ A limb has fallen from the family tree, but please do not grieve for me. Remember the best times, the laughter, the song, the good life I lived when I was strong. ~
