
Ada Jean Chaffin, 92, of Independence, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2017. A visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12th at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. also at the funeral home; committal at 3:00 p.m. in Missouri Veterans Cemetery, Higginsville, MO.
Ada was born on January 19, 1925 in Walkertown, KS, daughter of Chester and Ettie (Hawkins) Harvey. She was a hair dresser, a bookkeeper and a very active church member. She worked at Bendix and also worked at Silver Dollar City into her 80’s. She loved gardening, fishing and liked quilting. She had numerous adopted grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. She was loved by so many. Ada is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Chaffin; son, Bill Daw Jr.; step-son, Mark Chaffin; grandson, Jon Helmich; parents, Chester and Ettie Harvey; and several siblings.
Ada’s survivors include her 3 daughters, Mary Thompson of Independence, MO, Jeannie Helmich (Jan) of Liberty, MO and Joan Rucker (Dean) of Buckner, MO; step-son, Steve Chaffin (Shirley) of Hopkinsville, KY; 17 grandchildren, Bobby Johnson, Mark Johnson (Karen), Brent Johnson (Mary), Robin Goldsmith (Kirk), Randy Johnson (Lori), Christine Hardison (Mike), Chad Daw, Jeffrey Daw, Ginger Casto, Nikki Raasch (Errie), Travis Helmich (Katie), Lynette Carey (Keith), Patrick Herrington (Cynthia), Melissa Day (Scott), Melanie Harrell (Greg), Chris Chaffin (Melanie) and Beth Richardson (Sam); 33 great-grandchildren; 13 great great-grandchildren; 3 siblings, Boneta Wrestler, Katie Simons and Joan Ellis; and sister-in-law, Zella Harvey.
