Allen L. Salyer


Allen Lee Salyer, 62, of Grain Valley, MO, passed away suddenly while working to support his family. He was born on May 16, 1961, in Richmond, MO, the son of Jerry and Mattie (Spaw) Salyer.

Allen’s story begins after he graduated from Wellington-Napolean High School in 1979. His big life personality and joy for life would allow him to maintain friendships with many of those he went to school with for the remainder of his life.

He had a desire to be a machinist which began during his junior and senior year of high school. In 1982 at the age of 21 he decided to make a change in his life and joined the US Navy where he was able to utilize his machining skills while based in San Diego, CA. During his stint with the US Navy, he boarded the USS Carl Vincent Aircraft Carrier and set off on a journey around the world, so many places he visited Japan, Italy, etc. for those six months aboard the ship his duties were to secure the planes when they landed on the ship deck.

In 1986 Allen left the Navy and began the rest of his life as a Truck Driver and he traveled the entire United States and Canada for the next 38 years. During this time Allen finally met the love of his life and married Sheila R. Scrivner in 2007, which presented the bonding of two families, he ended up with 4 beautiful daughters that completed his goal and desire to have a family.

Family was a priority in his life, and he felt blessed to be surrounded by his girls who adored him including his wife. He was the calmest, most loving man and made sure everyone was taken care of before himself. The kindness he expressed and the gentle giant he was offered a shoulder to lean on for everyone. He loved his family more than anything in the world and would do anything for his wife, girls and parents. Allen will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife Sheila R. Salyer of the home in Grain Valley, MO.

Daughters: Shawna R. Jackson (Jared) of Gardner, KS; Madison L. Gregorio (Ben) of Independence, MO; Jessica R. Salyer of Independence, MO; Anna M. Salyer of the home in Grain Valley, MO

Grandchildren: Charlie E. Jackson of Gardner, KS; Lucas A. and Allen J. Gregorio, Independence, MO,

Mother: Mattie P. Salyer of Grain Valley, MO

Brother: Dale W. Salyer (Krista) of Odessa, MO

Several Nephews and Nieces

He was preceded in death by his father Jerry M. Salyer, nephew Andrew B. Salyer, and grandson Paul A. Jackson.

A celebration of Allen’s life with be held Sunday, April 7, 2024, at the Grain Valley Community Center located behind the Grain Valley Police Station, 12:00 to 2:00.
