Alma Deane “Sue” Slauter, 80, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away Sunday, March 11, 2007 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday March 17th at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley; burial in Valley Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley. The family will receive friends from 6:00-9:000 p.m. Friday March 16th at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Church of Jesus Christ.
Alma Deane Boswell, known as Sue, was born on November 16, 1926, in Harrison County, Missouri, to Roy and Deane (Osborn) Boswell. Sue married John Slauter on February 4, 1945. They lived in Lamoni, Iowa, for 60 years before moving to Blue Springs in 1994. Sue worked for 20 years in Lamoni in the Graceland College food service where she touched the lives of many college students and co-workers. She loved to cook for family and friends and opened her home to anyone who needed a good meal. For several years she shared her baking expertise and friendship by working part time in the Blue Springs Price Chopper bakery.
John and Sue were lovingly know as “Mom andPop” to hundreds of Graceland College students from around the world. She patiently taught many young people to make pies and cinnamon rolls while listening to their joys and concerns. Known around Blue Springs for baking and delivering fresh pies and homegrown vegetables, Sue loved to brighten someone’s day with something good to eat. She vibrantly shared her testimony of Christ throughout her life. Sue was a member of the Covenant Church of Jesus Christ of Grain Valley.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John; parents, Roy and Deane Boswell; brothers, Clarence and Kenneth Boswell; and sister, Nina Cook.
Her survivors include sons John Edward Slauter & his wife, Marilyn, and James Slauter & his wife Janet; daughter Sue Ann Davis & her husband, Bonner; brothers James Boswell & his wife, Arnetta, and Morris Boswell & his wife, Jennifer; sisters and brothers-in-law Janice Boswell, Jan & Lynn Williams, Jim Cook, Jean & Richard Mickelson, Marjorie & Nile Patton, Marie & John Marsh; grandchildren and spouses Melissa Cerise, Paul & Kristen Slauter, Laura & James Can Biber, Shari & Jason Joles, Brandon & Jennifer Slauter, Justin & Stephanie Davis, Taylor Davis and Adam Davis; great grandchildren Caleb, Clayton & Cole Cerise, Spencer & Kylie Joles, John Andrew & Matthew Slauter, Jordan & Katie Slauter, Alicia Crosley, Tanner Davis, and Blair Van Biber; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to immediate family, John and Sue consider David & Megan Chao, Tiffany and Jonathan to be their adopted children and grandchildren.
