Belva M. Cross


Belva “Betty” Mae Cross, 90 of Independence, MO passed away Sunday, August 15, 2021 at her home. Betty was born February 24, 1931 in Camden Point, MO to Joseph & Georgia Hubbard. Her family soon moved to the northeast area of Kansas City, MO where she spent her childhood. Betty attended Northeast High School and graduated in 1947. Betty married Bill Cross on June 25, 1955 and moved to Independence, MO where they settled down and started a family. They had one child; Kimberly Ann. Betty worked as a sales lady in the children’s department at Harzfeld’s at the Blue Ridge Mall for many years. Betty also volunteered at the Independence, Regional Health Cnt before going to work at Dillard’s in the china department at the Independence Center. She retired in 2009 after helping many brides with their wedding registry and making life-long friends as well. Betty & Bill were members of the Loyal Order of the Moose in Sugar Creek, MO where they would “dance the night away.” They were also great fans of the Kansas City Chiefs attending all the games as part to the “Wolfpack.” Betty loved her family and enjoyed fixing their favorite dishes including meatballs, rollups and banana cream pie.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her brother, Douglas Hubbard and two sisters Patty Gregg and Joan Benne. Survivors include her daughter, Kim and husband, David Mullnix of Independence, MO, 2 grandsons, Steven Mullnix and Chris Mullnix also of Independence, MO and a great-grandson, Joshua Mullnix as well a nephews and nieces.

A Memorial service in honor of Betty will be held Saturday, September 25, 2021 at the Fort Osage Church of the Nazarene 19333 E. 24 Hwy, Independence, MO 64056. Visitation will begin at noon with the service to follow at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions be made to Fort Osage Church of the Nazarene. www.fort.church
