Betty L. George, 99, of Independence, MO passed away peacefully at Country Club Care Center in Warrensburg, MO on June 27, 2022. Born in Tonganoxie, KS on February 25, 1923, to Oscar B. and Lyla M. (Ousdahl) Botts, she graduated from Tonganoxie High School and went to work at the local telephone company as a telephone operator. Her love of music and dancing (both Swing and Irish Folk Dancing) were interests throughout her life. She married her husband, Walter L George on November 21, 1942, and they were married for nearly 74 years until his death in 2016. They owned / operated George Grocery in McLouth KS for a number of years before moving their family in 1955 to Independence MO where Betty took on the role of homemaker and raising their 3 children. Betty loved her family, friends, music, and cooking.
She is survived by; her three children, Shari (Frank) Buro of New Port Richey, FL, Sheila George of the home and John (Debi) George of North Kansas City, MO, four grandchildren (Beth, Christy, Justin & Dana), seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter L George, her brother, Jean (Betty) Botts, her sisters, Dorthy (Jim) Dwyer, Marie (Gene) Hubbard and Deannie (Tom) Laming.
Per her request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations to be forwarded to group(s) whose loving care are a tribute to Betty’s spirit, attitude, and her life: City Union Mission, 1100 E 11th St, KCMO 64106; Country Club Health Care Center, 503 Regent, Warrensburg, MO 64093; or 3 Rivers Hospice, 1604 NW Mock Ave, Unit C, Blue Springs, MO 64015.
