Bill Medley


Bill Medley, 77, of Lee’s Summit, MO, (formerly Del City, Oklahoma and Republic, Missouri) surrounded by family, passed away on August 17, 2011 after struggling with ALS. Visitation is planned for Sunday, August 21st from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Royer Funeral Home in Grain Valley. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 22nd at 10 :00 a.m. at the funeral home; burial with full military honors in Floral Hills East Cemetery, Lee’s Summit, MO. In lieu of flower, memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Foundation, 6950 Squibb Road, Suite 210, Mission, KS, 66202, www.alsa-midwest.org; or Colbern Road Baptist Church, 24400 NE Colbern Road, Blue Springs, MO, 64086.

Bill was born on September 7, 1933, in Post Oak, Texas, the son of Eugene & Nora (Lemon) Medley. He graduated from Bowie High School in Bowie, Teas and was a proud graduate of Texas Tech University. Bill served 4 years active duty in the Air Force during the Korean War with an additional 20 years as an active reservist. He was also a 37-year civil service employee at tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, Oklahoma, retiring at the rank of Lt. Colonel in 1995. In his spare time, Bill enjoyed working as a tax preparer for H&R Block for 25 years as well as woodworking and gardening.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters & 1 brother.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Medley of the home; a daughter, Terri Hays & husband, Greg of Lone Jack, MO; 2 sons: Donald Medley & wife, Vicki, of Albuquerque, NM, & Corkey Medley & wife, Angie, of Springs Hill, TN; 4 grandchildren: Casey Deja & husband, Pete, of Skokie, IL, Corey Lee of Lenexa, KS, Mike Medley of Seattle, WA & Chris Medley of Seattle, WA; 2 great-grandchildren: Kaden Medley & Meki Medley; a sister, Thelma McShan; and a brother, J. Medley.

Bill will be greatly missed and remembered for his sweet, gentle spirit and wonderful smile.
