Brad Alexander, a life-long resident of Oak Grove, died at the age of 65 on September 6, 2022.
Brad is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sue Alexander, his sister-in-law Jeanne Alexander, nephews John, James, and Greg Alexander, grand-nieces Cydney, Gracie, and Chloey, sister-in-law Judy Black of Colorado, nephew Jeff Black (Jill) and great nieces Keira, Kylar & Kelsey, niece Suzanne Andres (Mark) and great nephew Ben, and niece Janelle Johnson (Scott) and great nephews Jaden, Jarrett, Joshua, and Jacob. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Freda Alexander, brother Greg Alexander, and son Jason.
Brad was born on April 1,1957 in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1975 where he was a stand-out athlete competing in football, basketball, and track. Brad attended Central Missouri State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in law enforcement/criminal justice. He served on the Jackson County Police Department retiring as a sergeant. Brad later opened his own insurance company. He finished his working career as a federal investigator doing background investigations for those needing top-secret security clearance.
As an Oak Grove Alderman for twenty-five years, Brad has represented Ward 2 since August 28, 1997. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove. Brad was committed to helping the community of Oak Grove and gave numerous hours to help his hometown. His selflessness was evident in the way he not only helped his community but also his family and friends.
Sports continued to take a place in Brad’s life as he was an avid golfer and enjoyed watching PGA tournaments. He was a life-long Chiefs’ fan and enjoyed watching games with Sue. Brad loved to travel – some of his travels included Colorado, Hawaii, Acapulco, Las Vegas, the World Golf Village in Florida and Orlando, Florida with Sue and the OGHS Cheerleading squad. He also enjoyed discovering new restaurants around the Kansas City area.
Brad had a unique and crazy sense of humor. He was a prankster with a heart of gold. Brad loved to make people laugh and find the humor in any situation.
Over the past ten years, Brad spent quality time with his three “grandnieces”. In his words, “I had a hole in my heart that I didn’t know about until these girls came into my life and filled it”. Uncle Brad will be missed for his unending support and devotion to his girls. Like Gracie said, “My Uncle Brad is better than a Grandpa!”
Services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove with a visitation at 10:30am and funeral services at noon on Thursday, September 15, 2022. In lieu of flowers, the family asks you donate to either St. Jude’s Research Hospital or the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove.
