Brett D. Thornton

Brett Dion Thornton, was 55 years old when he went to be with God on July 7, 2023.  Brett was most recently residing in the Blue Springs, Missouri area where he had lived the past several years.

Brett was born in Washington Court House, Ohio on February 4th, 1968.  His family then moved to Tucson, Arizona.  From there he had the privilege of living in many different states as a child until his family finally landed in Overland Park, Kansas. Brett attended Overland Christian High before the family moved to Kansas City, Kansas where he graduated from F.L. Schlagle High School in 1986.

He immediately went to work at a local print shop in Kansas City, Kansas where he learned many skills in the printing business.  This allowed him to advance in the printing world where he held positions at several printing companies in the Kansas City area from feeder to pressman.  He was currently working at Burd and Fletcher sharpening his skills where his attention to detail and the quality of his work was never in question.

Brett had many things in his life that brought him joy.  He loved the outdoors and many different sports.  He loved riding his bike, he loved music. Some of his favorites were The Grateful Dead and John Prine.  Brett actually played the violin and sang in church as a young man where he learned about God.  He loved to cook and was always trying to learn new ways to improve his nutrition.  He was notorious for having more than one juicer in the house at any given time.  But what Brett loved most was his family.  He loved spending time with his family, whether it be one of his two kids, his step children, his grandkids or his nieces.  His mom, dad or brother.  He devoted as much time as possible in trying to make their lives better in some way.  Brett was able to brighten a room without being the center of attention.  His carefree, jovial personality was easy to be around and loved by many including many of his daughters’ childhood friends who looked up to him as their own father.

Brett was preceded in death by his father Cloyce Thornton (wife Patsy Thornton) and he is survived by his daughter Sarah Thornton and her children Jaiela, Kamren, Alayna and Xavier of Kansas City, Kansas, and his son Tristan Thornton of Grain Valley, Missouri; by his mother Evelyn Garcia, (husband Frank) of Tonganoxie, Kansas; brother Wes Thornton (wife Sherri and daughters Jordan and Haylee) all of Kansas City, Missouri.

Services to be held July 30, 2023, 2:00PM at Church of the Nazarene in Bonner Springs, Kansas.
