Charles “Moon” R. Mullins


Charles “Moon” Ray Mullins, 82, of Buckner, Missouri, died Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at his home.  Memorial will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 1st at the Buckner Senior Center located at 611 S. Sibley Street, Buckner, MO 64016.

Charles was born in Shidler, Oklahoma, on May 22, 1935 as the first male, until 10 minutes later when his identical twin Carroll was born. He lived in Warrensburg until he joined the U.S. Army in 1955, where he and his twin both served together in Germany.  They were known for entertaining their fellow soldiers with singing, and were known as “The Gold Dust Twins”.  When he returned from Germany he spent several years in California.  Then during the 1960’s he moved to Independence, until settling in Buckner in 1975.  He retired as a Machinist from Brunson Instruments Company in 1997.  However, in prior years he had been an employee with Standard Oil Refinery, and after retirement various other jobs.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, video poker, and singing karaoke.  He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Moose Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, eldest brother Jim Mullins, sister Elizabeth Lewis, Gwen Price (oldest son’s Chas & Curtis mother), Penny Forrester (son Casey’s mother), and several close personal friends.

He is survived by three sons: Curtis Mullins of Buckner, MO., Charles (Chas) Mullins, Jr. of Kansas City, MO., and Casey Wright (wife Maria) of Valencia, CA; two daughters Angela (Angie) Crawford of Blue Springs, MO., and Jennifer Brown of Buckner, MO; his twin brother, Carroll Mullins (wife June) of Blue Springs, MO., and sister Margaret Reinitz of Farmington, MN; Gennie Erisman (daughters mother); 6 grandchildren: Curtis Gwinn SSG, Richard and Samantha Brown, Sebastian Wright, Nathan Brown and Stefanie Doty; 8 great-grandchildren; and several other nieces, nephews and a large extended family.
