Cheryl Ann Van Horn, 67, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on Saturday, September 24, 2022. Cheryl was born on January 18, 1955 in Jefferson City, Missouri to Bazil Carl Maples and Peggy Ann Briant. She spent most of her childhood in Argentine, Kansas and moved to the Oak Grove area in 1974. She married Steve Van Horn in July 1976. She has two beloved sons, Bobby Dietzel, Independence and Dennis Van Horn, Kansas City. Cheryl worked at laundromats in Oak Grove and Blue Springs and for Percell Drug in Oak Grove. Cheryl received a life-saving kidney transplant in November, 2006. Cheryl was known her sense of humor, her sharp memory and made from scratch baking and cooking, especially family taco night! She enjoyed traveling with her husband and her tea cup poodle, Sweet Pea.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents and her grandson, Hunter Shane Dietzel. Survivors include Steve Van Horn, of the home, sons Bobby (Julie O’Neill) and Dennis; sisters Linda Kay Maples, Omaha, NE, Karen Denise McCauley, Lee’s Summit, MO, Carla Jean White, Oak Grove, MO, Paula Jo Dunton, Oak Grove, MO and brother David Lee Maples, Oak Grove, MO; grandchildren, Lake Van Horn and Tristan Van Horn; many cousins, nieces and nephews, including Anna Jean Maples and Courtney Leah Maples who had a very special relationship with her. She also leaves many wonderful friends and family who she greatly loved and enjoyed spending time with.
Please join the family for a Celebration of Life open house on Saturday, October 22 from 12-2pm at the Oak Grove American Legion, Post 379, 1209 S. Broadway, Oak Grove, Missouri, 64075. Light refreshments will be served.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to talk to your family about becoming an organ donor. Donations may be made to the local chapters of Donate Life or National Kidney Foundation in Cheryl’s memory.
