Clinton W. “CJ” Underwood

Clinton Wayne Underwood, 30, of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away Saturday, December 3, 2016.  A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2017 at Lakewood Way Community Church, 1150 NE Woods Chapel Road, Blue Springs.

From Larry:

Clinton was born January 6, 1986, in Columbia, Missouri.  When he was 4 days old, the hospital had us (Larry & Loretta Underwood) take him into our home.  We were Clinton’s grandparents.   His mother (Anita) did not have a permanent address.  At about 2 years of age, we filed for Clinton’s adoption, but it failed.  Two years later, we refiled for his adoption and it was granted.  Clinton lived with us until he was around 18 years of age.

Clinton settled into a normal life as our son, living in a Christian home and active in church functions.  Several times, he took part in Christian weddings and we still have pictures of these activities.

As time went on, Clinton started going on fishing trips to the lake and deer hunting with me.  We have lots of pictures of Clinton and me with the fish we caught, riding the four-wheeler, and deer hanging from a tree.

It came a time in Clinton’s life when he took a wife, and they had two children (Amber & Elisiah).  The marriage failed and Catholic Charities got involved and placed the children in our home.  As time passed, we fell in love with these two children and adopted them.  They still live in our home.  Clinton also had two other children, AnnaKay & Josh.

Just a few days before Clinton passed, he came to the house and we all went to Meyer’s Music to watch Elisiah perform on the keyboard before a room full of people.

We already miss Clinton a lot.

  1. You was my friend, you was my little brother. We met when you was 12 and walking by my house on oxford smoking a cig and I yelled ”Hey you get over here!” I won’t forget the look of fear on your face because you thought I was gonna kick your butt and then the look of relief when all I did was ask if you had a extra cig. Or all the times we used to make Larry mad by staying up all night talking too loud with either Dustin or Travis, and the mornings you, me, and Larry had Larry’s famous plate sized pancakes and talked. I will feel your presence gone for the rest of my life and when I get old and not being able to do what we talked about with our wheelchair races or the mirrors on the feet of our canes or walkers. We went through hell together but we always came back together as brothers. I will never forget the good times we had, always in my heart, never forgotten, love you little brother…..James/Scorpio

  2. CJ was like my older brother. We met when I was 16 years old through his brother Joshua Canterbury. Whenever he would call me it was always “Sissy I need your advice” or “Sissy we need to talk” even “Whats wrong Sissy”. There was this day that I had spent out with friends with my daughter and I went to pick up her father, only to find out that he was messing around on me and I went to go after the girl and you stopped me and looked at me telling me to take your niece home and forget about it. There was also all the times you would call saying this or that went wrong and I would do my best to talk you through it, I would try to help you and you would do your best to help me. I remember you taking me to walmart so you can go grocery shopping with Manda (Candy) and LeeAnn (her mom) when you introduced me to your mother Loretta. I have 1000 memories of you that I will carry with me always and I will never let one of them fade from my mind just like you will never fade from our hearts. Even though you’re physically not here you are always with us. I love you bubba, this is not goodbye this is just a I’ll see you later. ~ Crystal Lee Anne Perez (Ruby)

  3. I was CJ’s first grade teacher. He was such a sweet, little boy and I remember vividly just how much his grandparents adored him. To his family, my deepest sympathies are with you at this time. I am extremely saddened to hear of his death. May God hold you close at this time. ~ Mrs. Clifton
