Deanna L. Hamel

Deanna Louise (Lackey) Hamel was born January 31, 1941 and left this earth on Monday, August 16, 2021 at “Wilshire at Lakewood” in Lee’s Summit MO. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 21st at Blue Springs Assembly of God Church, Blue Springs, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until service time at the church.

Dee was “Mom” to everyone who walked through her door. Her children’s friends always found a welcome in her home and in her heart.

She was gifted in administration and worked in several professional settings: KCCV Radio, Sears, Harmon Electronics, and Shelter Insurance.

Through her whole life, she served in many roles in the churches they faithfully attended and coordinated many ministries and activities.

For more than 15 years, Dee and Shorty led their church’s seniors’ ministry, “Amazing Grays”, with monthly gatherings that included potluck dinners and a fun or informative program. She also took great joy in coordinating the annual “Branson Getaway”, arranging hotels, shows, and other activities. These getaways were a highlight.

Dee led a life of GENEROSITY and SERVICE, never asking anything in return. She has been an example to her children and so many others. She will be deeply missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rudolph and Oleta Lackey, and a son-in-law, Michael Driver.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Shorty; daughter, Kim (Mark) Thomas of Lee’s Summit; son, Kevin (Tiffany) Hamel of Blue Springs; son, JD (Toni) Montgomery of Eldon MO; brother, Bill (Charlotte) Lackey of Grain Valley; sister, Sondra Odekirk, of Blue Springs. Grandchildren: Kristine Driver, Kathryn Driver, Colton Thomas, Connor Thomas, Preston Hamel, Julia Hamel, Jonathan (Maddie) Montgomery, Jordan (Meagan) Montgomery.

  1. Shorty, so sorry she has left us, but I know she is up there singing with the gang. I have lost a relative and friend but we will meet again. We pray blessings on you as you navigate through this. Love you.
