Denny Ray Matthews, 65, of Independence, MO, passed away on Saturday, September 19th at home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 22nd at the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove: Visitation will be 1-3 pm with a Memorial Service beginning at 3 pm. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society or the First Baptist Church.
Denny was born April 27, 1950 in Warrensburg, MO, the son of Pete & Emorie (Shaeffer) Matthews. He married Peggy Ann Merritt on May 24, 1974. Denny had been employed as a Senior Technician for the Bayer Company for 32 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove and the Oak Grove Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed fishing & hunting, was an avid fan of the KC Chiefs & the KC Royals, and loved spending time with his family.
Denny is survived by his wife Peggy of the home; 3 children: Misty White (Steve) of Independence, Amy Prescott (Paul) of Oak Grove, Tommy Hancox (Ramona) of Elgin, OK; his parents: Pete & Emorie Matthews; 1 sister: Connie Jones of Blue Springs; 6 grandchildren: Nick Hancox (Christina), Nick Prescott (Vanessa), Codi Prescott (Breann), Kayli Prescott, Dalton White, & Alyssa White; and 8 great-grandchildren: Hunter Prescott, Wyatt Prescott, Kymber Prescott, Bradley Francis, Brayden Prescott, Gavin Prescott, Alexis Hancox, & Jasmine Martinez.
