Donald Melvin Cutshall, lifelong resident of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away at home Friday, September 27, 2024. He was born April 24, 1946 to John Albert and Thelma Louise Morris, Cutshall. He graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1964. Don played football, did gymnastics, excelled in track, and sang in a quartet. He married his high school sweetheart Edith Wiggins in 1968.
Don is survived by his wife, Edith Cutshall; daughter, Cory Lynn (Eric) Eliason; son, Clayton Cutshall; three grandsons, Briggs, Bryer, and Ames Eliason; and sister, Gloria Dunkeson. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lee, Ron, John Jr. Cutshall, and sister Janie Smith.
Don was an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ, Oak Grove Restoration Branch. He attended carpentry and welding school after high school and worked at Allis Chalmers doing specialty welding on combines. He also worked as a rough-in carpenter for several different companies. Then he started his own construction company. Don built and remodeled many structures in the Oak Grove area. One of the largest projects he worked on was a large apartment complex in Blue Springs. Years later Don worked as a subcontractor. His last major project before retiring was refurbishing barracks at Whiteman Air Force Base in Knob Noster. He considered the supervision and building of the Oak Grove Restoration Branch of Jesus Christ’s Church the most meaningful accomplishment of his life. He also farmed and raised cattle for many years.
In his younger years, he liked to go to the lake. He was a scuba diver and was a charter member of the Lee’s Summit Underwater Recovery Team. He also received a pilot’s license and enjoyed trail riding, with his friends on his motorcycle. Don also taught himself to play the harmonica and dulcimer. Hunting was a hobby he enjoyed with his friends and they went out west to Wyoming and Montana to hunt often.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 5th at 10:00 a.m. with a memorial service following at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ Oak Grove Restoration Branch, 1203 N Broadway, Oak Grove. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the church or Whiskey Ridge Rescue, 17228 White Road, Green Ridge, 65332 whiskyridgerescue.com.
