Donald M. Perrin

Donald Marvin Perrin was born on July 24, 1934 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the youngest of five children – Clarence, Mary, Doris, twin sister Dorothy, Don. They moved to Kirksville where he grew up on the farm. Farm life included many chores and long walks to school. He was a member of 4H and grew corn which he entered in the contests. The family was a member of the Catholic church. After graduation, his brother Clarence urged him to come to Independence, Mo. to work on the railroad. While in Independence, he met Virginia Ross. They were married on March 30, 1956 at the Spring Branch RLDS church. Don joined the Army and they moved to Lacy, Washington.

Don and Virginia had two children – Bud (Donald Ray) and wife Diane and Cathy Lynn and husband Fred. Don was Scoutmaster of Troop 205 for many years at Slover Park RLDS where he guided many young men through the scouting program. He was an Honorary Warrior in the tribe of Mic-O-Say. Don was a proud member of the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served as an Elder in the church. One of his favorite things was the men’s breakfast on Friday mornings. They were a great support for him. He worked at Armco in Kansas City, Mo. for many years, retiring in 1996. Don and Virginia spent many years travelling and spending winters in Texas. They met some good friends along the way. Don loved hunting and fishing and would bring back a freezer load of fish to share with friends and family. He was a devoted beekeeper and enjoyed working with his ‘bee buddies’. Don was thoughtful and kind and never knew a stranger. He was also a worker, always figuring out how to do things. When he lived with Bud & Diane the last few years, he could see the entire back yard from his bedroom. Even though he didn’t always feel like coming down, he always knew what was going on. His daily routine was to get the golf cart and feed the birds and his cat Molly.

He also delighted in his grandchildren. Bud’s two sons, Rob (Jen) and Tom (Kim) and Diane’s children, Becky (Tom), Julie (Bob) and Robert (Karla) and Cathy and Fred’s children, Josh (Stephanie) and Rachel (Matt). Many great grandchildren added to his joy. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 yrs, Virginia Ross Perrin, in 2021 and twin sister, Dot, in 2023.

A memorial service will be held at The Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2820 M 291 Frontage Rd. on Monday, June 10 at 10 am. A military honors service will be at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery, 20109 Bus. MO-13, Higginsville, MO following the service.
