F.A. Guffey


F.A. Guffey, 96, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2022.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 24th at First Baptist Church of Oak Grove; burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the church.  Contributions may be made to Cross Creek Baptist Mission.

F.A. was born June 10, 1926, in Breckenridge, Missouri, the son of Paul F. and Violet E. (Perkins) Guffey.  He served in the U.S. Army in the 33rd Division during WWII, where he served in the Pacific Theater and in the Philippines when the first atom bomb was dropped.  F.A. was a steel worker for Armco Steel, retiring after 32 years.  He was a member of the Oak Grove City Council, served as VFW Commander, was the last owner of the Oak Grove Jail, and built 12 houses in Oak Grove.  F.A. was a licensed minister at New Salem Baptist Church in Independence, where he was also a song leader and started a church bowling league in 1959 at Strike & Spare in Independence.  He was a member of First Baptist Church of Oak Grove, where he had served as a Deacon.

F.A. was preceded in death by his parents; four siblings: Jim, Richard, Clyde, and Charlene; and both of his wives, Viola M. Stewart and Doris Nunn Mead.

His survivors include daughter, Vickie Gurney (Ray) of Oak Grove; son, Donnie Guffey (Brenda) of Schell City, MO; son, David Guffey (Linn) of Blue Springs, MO; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two great great-grandchildren.
