Gary A. Sallee, 68, Oak Grove, MO died peacefully at home April 22, 2020. Born April 20, 1952, he was the son of Everett and Barbara Sallee from Grain Valley, MO.
Gary worked at Armco Steel in Kansas City, MO until his car accident in 1986, which left him a quadriplegic. Although the accident was devastating to the family at the time, he did not let his paralysis hold him back. In fact, he became more active in his community by joining the Oak Grove Christian Church and becoming their active grounds keeper, sharing his love for gardening.
He joined the Oak Grove gym, Life Fitness, where he touched so many lives with his witty personality and determination to become healthy and strong. In his later years, he became an activist for others with disabilities searching for ways to create a smoother path to obtain help for a “normal life” while staying in the comforts of their home.
Over the years, Gary was able to adapt and still enjoy his love for fishing with family and friends.
Survivors include his daughter Stacey Evans, her husband Paul Evans, and his grandsons Tyler and Bryce Jones. Brothers James (wife Joyce) Sallee, of Oak Grove MO and Carl (wife Beverly) Sallee of Blue Springs, MO.
Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations can be made in his honor to the United Spinal Association.
Arrangements: Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove, MO 816-690-4441
