Georgia Jester

Georgia Jester, 93, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 26, 2024 surrounded by her boys and loved ones.  The family will host a visitation from 10:00 – 11:30am on Friday, February 2nd, with services immediately following at Royer Funeral Home in Oak Grove, MO.

Georgia was born April 6, 1930, in Buchanan County, MO, the daughter of George Allen Stackhouse and Goldie June Groomer. Georgia married John Jester, all thanks to her sister introducing her to her boyfriend (and later husband’s) younger brother. The young couple welcomed six boys into the world: Johnny, Donald, Freddie, Eddie, (and in Georgia’s own words: “we don’t know what the hell happened with the rhyming scheme with Roger, and Joe”). While her boys were growing up, she was able to be a full-time homemaker. It’s no doubt that as a boy mom she was always busy keeping up the Jester Boy’s shenanigans. What one boy didn’t think of, the other one would. Georgia often blamed their ornery streak on their father. The jury is out on who holds the title for most ornery. The Jester boys loved their mama’s cooking, and everyone— even extended family and friends loved Georgie (or Aunt Susie’s) potato salad.

It wasn’t until her mid-40’s that she got her driver’s license to drive back and forth to work at Sears and Rupert Manufacturing. Georgia then worked at Calmar up until her retirement. Her boys will forever be appreciative of her hard work and grit. While Georgia enjoyed working as a Quality Control Supervisor, it’s no surprise the greatest title she was most proud of was “Mom”.  Her boys can attest, they always felt their mother’s love and dedication to her family.

Georgia was blessed to be surrounded by her loving boys as they would visit often, share many laughs together, and cheer on her favorite football team, The Kansas City Chiefs! In her spare time, she loved to sew and felt comfort when her favorite cat, Maynard, was by her side. Georgia enjoyed the company of family, sharing a meal with loved ones, and simply making memories together. Anyone that knew Georgia also knew that she had an expansive collection of Pillsbury Doughboys. Those attending funeral services are welcome to take a Pillsbury Doughboy as a keepsake and good-luck charm when attempting to make her famous potato salad recipe.

Georgia was preceded in death by her loving parents, her husband John, her sons Donald and Ed, her sister Marie, her brother Logan, her grandsons Fred Jr. and Roger Jr., and daughter-in-law Carol.

Georgia’s survivors include her sons John Jester, Fred (Diana) Jester, Ed’s wife Bessie Jester, Roger (Susan) Jester, and Joe (Marnette) Jester. Twenty grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews that will forever love their “Aunt Susie”.
