Gladys Joyce Nichols, 96, of Independence, Missouri passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2023. Born August 5, 1927 in Indianapolis, Indiana, she was the devoted wife of Ltc. Norman D. Nichols for more than 60 years. During her husband’s military career, she moved with her family well over 20 times. She was the pillar in the family while her husband served hardship tours including the Korean and Vietnam wars. As a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she demonstrated much love to her family.
Gladys was an accomplished gourmet cook and had the gift of hospitality. She was a faithful church attendant and also served as a Pink Lady in a local hospital.
While residing in southern Indiana, she proved herself an industrious and avid gardener.
She is survived by her sister Jane Greene, daughter Cindy Seaman, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a memorial donation be given to either of her favorite charities: The Samaritan’s Purse or a cancer research organization.
