Guy G. Rice


Guy Garner Rice, 88, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away Monday, February 1, 2021.

Guy was born March 25, 1932 of the marriage of Guy William Rice and Elizabeth (Smith) Rice, in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Wentworth Military Academy, located in Lexington, Missouri in 1949. After graduation, he enrolled as a freshman, at Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin, were he became a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. In 1951, he transferred to the University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri, becoming the Social Chairman of that fraternity. He graduated from the University of Missouri in 1953 and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. After graduation, he attended the Artillery School at-Fort Sill, Oklahoma and was later promoted to First Lieutenant and became a Company Commander in various Army units, before completing his military contract and being discharged in 1957. Thereafter, he was employed by the Missouri/Kansas District of The Ford Motor Company, last as Customer Relations Manager, until he was offered a similar position with R. H Macy’s where he later held other positions there, including that of Sales Manager. He enrolled at the Law School of the University of Missouri at Kansas City, graduated in 1964 and was licensed as an Attorney at Law. In all, Mr. Rice actively practiced law in the Kansas City area for 46 years, representing many banks and business corporations and trying numerous jury trials to a successful conclusion. During his 46 years as a practicing attorney, he served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Jackson County Missouri and as Assistant County Counselor for Jackson County. Early in his legal career and in cooperation with a nationally renowned legal scholar and professor, Candler Rogers, and various banks in the Kansas City area, he conceived of and organized The Estate Planning Association and became its first President. That Association, with limited membership of 20 attorneys, 20 CPA’ s, 20 Life Underwriters and 20 bank Trust Officers, having merged with a similar group continues to function more than fifty years later, as The Estate Planning Society.

Mr. Rice was predeceased by his parents, a former wife and a daughter, Sandra Leigh Henroid (Rice). He is survived by a grandson, Joshua Henroid (Jessica) and the love of his life, Marcia Louise (Clines) Rice, his wife of 42 years, with whom he lovingly enjoyed traveling to many areas of the world they never expected  to see, but thoroughly enjoyed; all at a time when the world seemed more full of grace, beauty, peace and tranquility.

  1. I knew Guy as a lawyer for over 40 years and was very sorry to hear of his passing. My profound condolences to his family.

  2. Guy was our family attorney for two generations. I first met him over 45 years ago through Wayne Brown and Guy’s work for Sterling Bank in Sugar Creek. Guy was a great man. He will be missed. My prayers for his family.
