Herbert L. Bowling III


Herbert Larrimore “Larry” Bowling III, 76, of Buckner, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.  Service information is pending.

Larry was born on January 14, 1947 in Independence, Missouri, the first child of Herbert L. Bowling, Jr. and Ethel Westmoreland Bowling.  He grew up on the family farm in Sibley, Missouri.  Larry was a 1965 graduate of Fort Osage High School and attended William Jewel College for one year.   Larry’s two years of service in the U.S. Army included a tour of duty in Vietnam as an Air Traffic Controller.  Upon returning to civilian life, Larry worked at the Lake City plant before beginning his career at the Sibley Power Generating Plant with Missouri Public Service.   Larry held various positions until he retired in 2016 after over 40 years of service at the Sibley Plant.  Larry enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting, and many other outdoor activities.   For several years he and his wife Linda grew blackberries and other produce, with a you-pick operation as well as selling produce to local grocers and farm stands.  Larry greatly enjoyed this, especially the opportunity to chat with visitors to the farm.  Larry was a lifelong member of Six Mile Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Joy Bradley, and granddaughter Megan Bowling.  Larry is survived by his sister Janet Thompson, brother Mark Bowling and his wife Stacy, and grandchildren Lauren, Heather and Sarah.  Larry is also survived by Linda Bowling with whom he shared 18 years of marriage.
