James (Jim) Edward Logan of Blue Springs, Missouri, passed away on December 17, 2024, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Blue Springs, Missouri.
Visitation will be held at 3:30 p.m. on December 26, 2024, at Royer Funeral Home, 1832 N. Blue Mills Road, Independence, Missouri. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on December 27, 2024, at Six Mile Baptist Church, 26005 E. Blue Mills Road, Sibley, Missouri.
Jim was born on November 2, 1944, in Falls City, Nebraska, to Charles and Bernice Logan. He moved to Independence, Missouri, with his family in 1950 and graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1963.
Jim proudly served in the Air Force Reserves beginning in September 1965 as a Liquid Fuel Systems Maintenance Specialist with the 935th Combat Support Squadron, where he served for six years and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. During this time, he also worked at Allis-Chalmers as an industrial machinery operator.
On June 21, 1966, Jim met the love of his life, Carrilea (Carol) Alexander. After a whirlwind courtship, they were married on July 10, 1966, at Waldo Baptist Church in Independence, Missouri. Together, they built a life full of love and family.
In 1968, Jim began a 36-year career with the Missouri Pacific (Union Pacific) Railroad as a Switchman, retiring in November 2004.
Throughout their 58-year marriage, Jim and Carol raised three children—James (Jimmy), Stephanie, and David. Jim was an avid golfer and a talented home chef, but his greatest joy was being a Grampa to his six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A lifelong Christian, Jim attended Calvary Baptist Church as a child and young adult. Later, he became a member of Six Mile Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a Deacon and served others with his deep faith. His love for Jesus was evident in the way he lived his life and shared his faith with those around him.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Bernice Logan, and his brother, Charles William (Bill) Logan.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Logan; three children, James (Jimmy) and wife Lisa Logan, Stephanie and husband William Vanderpool, and David and wife Bobbie Logan; four siblings, sisters Carol Walker, Nancy and husband Will McGowan, and brothers Gene and wife Cathy Logan, and Terry and wife Kathy Logan; six grandchildren, Austin Logan, Ethan Logan, Kyle Bruns, Kelsie Todd, Jaden Logan, and Tate Logan; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in James Logan’s name to Samaritan’s Purse at www.samaritanspurse.org.
Jim will be remembered for his unwavering faith, love for his family, and the kindness he shared with everyone he met.
