Jane A. Barnes

Jane Ann (Perry) Barnes, age 78, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away on June 24th, 2021, surrounded by the love of her life and husband of 59 years, Dennis Barnes, and her beloved children, Robyn McCright, Alisa Carter, and William Barnes. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2021 at First Baptist Church, Grain Valley, MO. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.

Jane was born to Eugene and Arlie Perry on August 14, 1942 at their home in Andover, Missouri. She attended school through eighth grade at Bonnet School and graduated from Lamoni High school in 1960. She received a full scholarship and graduated from Graceland College in 1962 with a degree in Secretarial Science.

Immediately upon college graduation, on June 2, 1962, she married her high school sweetheart, Dennis Barnes. The two then moved from Lamoni, Iowa to Kansas City, Missouri where she began working at Wilcox Electric. She later pursued a career in real estate that included being branch secretary to several Kansas City agencies. She had a Broker’s Real Estate license and managed Barnes Real Estate and rental properties. In 1990, she and Dennis moved to Burkburnette, Texas. Upon return back to Kansas City in 1993 she worked for Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. After she retired from the State she practiced real estate again with Dennis. Jane was first and foremost, above any job or career, fiercely dedicated to her husband and children, Jane lived daily to serve her Lord, Jesus Christ, and it showed in her relationships with family, friends, and co-workers. She selflessly put the needs of her husband and children first. She made sure three meals were served at the table each day and helped her children and grandchildren with the cost of their college educations. She made sure her children were raised in the Christian faith and that the family attended church together regularly. The family attended Sterling Acres Baptist Church and considers their church friends as extended family. Her greatest titles have been Mom, Grandma and Gigi. She was extremely proud of all three of her children and appreciated each of their unique and special talents and qualities. She savored having them together with her in the last year of her life. But the crown jewels of her last years has been her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved being Gigi to her great grandchildren, Jonathan, Cash, Rylee, Rhett, and Caden, She said she would miss watching them grow up. Through the years she and Dennis enjoyed traveling both nationally and internationally. Some of their travels included trips to Israel, Venezuela, Mexico, Canada, Hawaii, Alaska, and the Cayman Islands. After retirement Jane found great joy in serving the Lord through Campers on Mission and working during the winter months at a youth camp in Texas. Jane found immense enjoyment in listening to and singing Southern Gospel Music and Hymns and in attending Jubilee in Branson with many friends. She loved to read, quilt, play Suduko and watch Wheel of Fortune.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Arlie Perry; her only sister, Shirley Thomlison; two brothers, Jack Perry and Joe Perry.

Jane leaves behind her husband who she called her Knight in shining armor, Dennis Barnes; her three children and their spouses, Robyn McCright (Jeff), Alisa Carter (Randy), and William Barnes (Jennifer). She leaves behind three grandchildren and spouses: Timothy Carter (Katie), Lindsay Jane Allen (Tyler), and chosen granddaughter Brittany Lee. She leaves five great grandchildren: Jonathan Franco, Caden McCright, Cash and Rhett Carter, and Rylee Allen. Jane has left behind two brothers, Jim Perry (Erma) and Don Perry; sister-in-law’s Janet Perry and Judy Waddell (Charles); as well as her “college mother” Madolyn Chandler and her chosen brothers, Virgil and Carl Chandler. She has left many nieces and nephews who she loved and enjoyed being with and hearing from.
