
Jay Leonard Allen, 82, Blue Springs, Missouri passed away on Saturday, February 12, 2022. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Community of Christ, 1803 S. Broadway, Oak Grove, Missouri. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church.
Jay was born May 5, 1939, to Leonard and Alice Allen of Flint, Michigan. He had no siblings, but friends at the Community of Christ church. They became his brothers and sisters. Jay graduated from Kersley High School in Davidson, Michigan. He continued his education at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan and post-graduate work at the University of Montana in Missoula. Married Joyce Hammond. Several years later, they welcomed a daughter, April. Jay taught school in Oxford, Michigan, and served as Village President (Mayor) of Oxford for several years. As a family, they extensively traveled while working for God and their church in several capacities in Michigan, Florida, Montana, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Missouri. For many years, the family later owned and operated the KOA Kampground in Oak Grove, Missouri, near Kansas City, Missouri. The couple drove school buses for the Blue Springs, Missouri school district. He completed his journey here on earth and went to join his Heavenly Father on February 12, 2022.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of more than 50 years; daughter, April Stevens and husband, David; grandchildren, Heather Thomas and husband Thomas, Huey Nelligan, and wife Billie; great grandchildren, Jordan, Bryleigh, David, LakeLynne, Alexandria, Merida, and his church family of the Oak Grove Community of Christ.
