Jerry Clingman, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 18, 2024. He was born on December 26, 1946, in Beloit, Kansas, to Max Glenn Clingman and Cleta Darlene (Rodgers). A proud graduate of Bennington High School, Jerry was known for his love of sports, particularly football and basketball, and there he made many life-long friends.
After graduating in May 1964, Jerry continued his education at Kansas State University, where he embraced the spirit of “EMAW.” He dedicated the majority of his career to serving as a Revenue Officer for the Internal Revenue Service, a role he performed with exceptional integrity and dedication.
Jerry married the love of his life, Sharon, on May 16, 1976. Together, they shared a fulfilling life, centered around their family. He loved racing and the race family he created at the track, visiting and teasing between rounds. Jerry was involved in the Church of the Resurrection, where he contributed as a member of the security team and the Back Snack program.
Jerry is preceded in death by his baby brother Larry Lynn; his parents Max and Cleta; and his bestest friend Molly Brown. He is survived by his wife Sharon of 48 years; his daughter Tracy Gail (Charlie) and grandson Tyler; his son and Crew Chief John William (Kim); and granddaughters Kelsey and Katy, as well as his future grandson-in-law Austin; and daughter Leslie Paige (John); and granddaughter Paige, and grandson Max.
To know him was to love him. He never had an unkind word to say about anyone, except maybe a KU fan. He wanted to be at the track or where ever his kids or grands were to cheer them on. He will be dearly missed. He was known for his kindness, his unwavering support for his family, and his enthusiasm for racing.
Celebration of Life will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday, August 22, 2024 at The Emerald Event Space, Blue Springs, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs, Harvesters or University of Missouri Veterinary School in Jerry’s memory.
