Joseph R. Wiggins

Joseph Randol Wiggins, 86, of Grain Valley, Missouri, passed away peacefully on May 9th, in his home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 18, 2024, at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, Missouri. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., followed by a brief graveside service.

Randol was born on October 4, 1937, in Kennett, Missouri, graduated from Grain Valley High School in 1955 and received his bachelor’s degree from Kansas State University.  He married his high school sweetheart, Edna Florene Brown, in 1958, and they spent the next sixty-four years together.

Randol was preceded in death by his grandparents: Hyrum and Ruby Wiggins; parents: Darwin and Elsie (Salter) Wiggins; and wife Edna Florene (Brown) Wiggins. He is survived by his five children: Gena, Randy (Heidi), Amy (Michael Leavell), Brad (Shelie) and Bret (Nikki); nine grandchildren: Logan (Lauren), Jackie Leavell, Jessy (Troy Stoecklein), Lauren, Sydney, Samantha, Andrea, Megan and Elizabeth; and two great-grandchildren: Lilah and Jack.

Randol was passionate about his family, his community, Oak Grove schools, the Grain Valley Alumni Association and tending his garden.  He was a wonderful dad, grandpa and great-grandpa.  There was seldom a time when he wasn’t smiling or cracking a corny joke.  He and Florene spent countless hours planning and hosting the Alumni Banquet for Grain Valley High School for decades.

Randol worked as a teacher at several schools, including Grain Valley High School, before becoming the principal at Oak Grove High School in 1969.  After several years, he transitioned to the role of middle school principal, where he stayed until he retired in 1991. He loved working with kids of all ages and attended hundreds of school events for both his own children and the students of Oak Grove over the years.  Following retirement, he and Florene enjoyed attending ballgames, concerts, and other events involving their grandchildren and showing support for their family and friends in every way possible.

Contributions to the Grain Valley Assistance Council would be welcomed.
