Karolyn K. George


Karolyn Kay (Powell) George, 84, of Raymore, MO, was born on June 23, 1940, in Salisbury, Missouri, to Gladys (Westcott) Powell and Jay Bee Powell. She entered the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 23, 2024. Kay passed peacefully in her sleep after a pancreatic cancer diagnosis.

Kay was married to Larry George on June 22, 1958, and remained happily married for 41 years until Larry’s death on January 5, 2000. Kay served faithfully alongside Larry at multiple rural churches, prior to their 29 years of service at Pleasant Grove Bible Church.

Kay placed her faith in Jesus Christ around the age of eleven and was baptized in 1951. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Bible Church for over fifty years, where she actively served in many roles. Kay lived with a peace that surpassed all understanding because of her faith in Christ. Her peace did not waver with her diagnosis. Kay loved the Lord and lived a life fully dedicated to serving Him and loving others in His name. One of Kay’s favorite verses was Deuteronomy 31:8, “And the LORD, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you, nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.”

Kay was a Resource Analyst at Hallmark Cards Corporate Office in Kansas City for 33 years before retiring in 2002.

Kay is survived by her daughter Terri (George) Warkentien and son-in-law Michael of Lee’s Summit, MO, their daughters Chelise Hyatt and husband Micah (Nicole, Micah Joel, Victoria, and Malachi); Heather Parker and husband Brandon (Bailey and Brady); Rachel Bailey and husband Joshua (Sophia, Eden and Jude); Brooklyn Warkentien; and Bianca Warkentien. Son James George and daughter-in-law Michel of Lawson, MO and their children Jeffery Bush and wife Melissa (Drake); Charles Bush and wife Amanda (Susan Page, husband Jonathan and Samantha); Laura Bush (Laura Elizabeth Curtis). Sisters Eleanor (Powell) Miller, Judy Powell, Karen (Powell) Konn, Larry Powell and wife Patricia, Claudette (Powell) Hammelton and many other beloved family and friends.

Kay was preceded in death by her husband Larry George, mother Gladys Wright, stepfather Sam Wright, and father, J. B. Powell; brothers Elmer Powell, Jerry Powell; sisters Patricia (Powell) Bretthorst, Cheryl (Wright) Springer, and brother Tyler Powell.

A celebration of life will be held at Pleasant Grove Bible Church, 4916 Lee’s Summit Road, Kansas City, MO, 64136, on Saturday, July 27, 2024. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am followed by the service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations to support Calvary University can be sent to 15800 Calvary Road, Kansas City, MO, 64147 in memory of Kay George, attention to Sara Klaassen.
