Kathleen Coombs


Kathleen Coombs, 72, of Grain Valley, Missouri passed away on Friday September 23, 2022. Visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Monday, September 26, 2022 at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, Missouri. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Blue Springs, Cemetery, Blue Springs, Missouri. Kathleen (Kathy) Coombs was the fifth born child of 14 kids, daughter of Jim and Betty Sopher. Kathy was in the Class of 1969 and graduated from Fort Osage High. She was a passionate and talented artist, who enjoyed crossword puzzles and traveling with family. Kathy loved her family and friends more than anything, and always made them a priority; her door was always open. She was a hard and honest worker, who retired from Durvet after nearly 20 years. She was an amazing mother who leaves behind two children, Samantha (Eric) Downing, of Surprise, AZ, and Terry Coombs, of Grain Valley, MO. She was a caring and compassionate grandmother to Derek Downing and Alexandria Downing, both of Surprise, AZ. She leaves behind a large and loving family of ten siblings: sister Sherry Orlando, of Overland Park, KS; brother Terry and (Gail) Sopher, of Oak Grove, MO; sister Paulette Stewart, of Grain Valley, MO; sister Vicky Krueger of Gaston, OR; brother James (Jeannie) Sopher Jr. of Oak Grove, MO; sister Patty Borberg of Grain Valley, MO; brother John (Karen) Sopher of Grain Valley, MO; sister Carla (Mike) Longhofer of El Dorado Springs, MO; sister, Marla Rathke of Grain Valley, MO; sister, Kim McFatrich of Lexington, MO. She has 33 nieces and nephews, 43 great-nieces and nephews and two great-great niece and nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James J. Sopher and Betty M. Sopher, brother Vincent Sopher, brother Michael Sopher and sister Pamela Gildehaus. She was kind, thoughtful and accepting, and will be missed greatly by many.
