Larry R. Hoy


Larry Raymond Hoy, 80, Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Friday, April 1, 2022, at North Kansas City Hospital.

Larry was the first baby to be born in Jackson County on January 1, 1942. He was the son and 5th child of Harold Raymond Hoy and ILA (Sevy) Hoy Case. Larry was a lifetime resident of Oak Grove, graduating from Oak Grove High School in 1960. He married his high school sweetheart, Leona, on August 3, 1960 and they were fortunate to enjoy 62 years of marriage.  Larry enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed traveling, working in his metal shop, and collecting tools. They raised both their daughters, Anna and Janet in Oak Grove in a house built by Larry and his father.  Larry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Larry was an electrician by trade. He owned Hugo Electric and co-owned Golden Belt Electric with his partner, James Chronister. He and Leona owned Leona’s Floral in Oak Grove for over 25 years. After retiring at 62, in 2004, Larry continued to stay busy. He worked for Molle Chevrolet in Blue Springs for 19 years as a dealer trader, driving all over the United States.

He was a member of the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department for 29 years. He served on the Sni Valley Board of Directors for 12 years, the Oak Grove City Council for 5 years, as a liaison to the Oak Grove Water Board as well serving on the Oak Grove Planning and Zoning Board.  Larry was a member of the MOKan Small Engine Club and Lathrop Car, Tractor and Engine Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-grandson Jeremy Cline, son-in-law William Cline, brother Harry Hoy, brothers-in-law Glen Williams and Elmer Young, and sisters-in-law Beverly Hoy and June Hoy.

Larry is survived by his wife, Leona, of the home; daughters, Anna Cline of Olathe, Kansas, and Janet Gann (Ronnie) Walford, Iowa; grandson, Brandon Gann (Tammy); granddaughter, Jennifer Bergmieir (Jesse); grandson, Jeff Cline (Casey); four great-grandsons, Lucas, Jack, Wyatt, and Jenson; brothers, Dwayne Hoy and Jerry Hoy; sisters, Elaine Williams and Lois Young; and multiple nieces and nephews.  Larry will truly be missed by many.

Family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 10th at Royer Funeral Home in Oak Grove.  Funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 11th, also at the funeral home. Final resting place will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
