Leah N. Jett

Leah Nadine Jett, 87, of Oak Grove, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2019.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 31st at Grace United Methodist Church – Oak Grove Campus, with visitation at 10:00 a.m., funeral at 11:00 a.m., followed by burial in Oak Grove Cemetery.  Leah has requested in lieu of flowers that donations be made to St Jude Children’s Hospital.

Leah was born on 09/02/1931 in Pawnee, MO, the daughter of Esther (Shackleford) Trammell, and Leonard Trammell.  She was widowed at a young age from husband Herman Provin and managed through grit and hard work to support herself and young daughter Vanessa Rae Provin by owning and operating a diner and motel in Hermitage, Missouri.  Both mother and daughter worked to cook clean rooms and provide service to weary travelers.

Leah met Vernon Jett on February 22, 1969 and happily married blending their two children Douglas Grant Jett Sr. and Vanessa Rae Provin, into their union. Settling in Oak Grove, Missouri they built a community of friends and church that brought them great joy.

Leah had a song in her soul and enjoyed music, was a talented artist and painter and enjoyed traveling, quilting, sewing and gardening.  Her huge heart extended homes to many animals through the years including her cat Pee Wee that presented at their doorstep one rainy night.  Both Vernon and Leah were federal employees and Leah retired from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) after 23 years of dedicated and meritorious service to the United States Government.  However, retirement did not suit Leah and she returned to the FAA as a Senior Realty Specialist and Building Space Planner and assisted to

build the DOT Building in downtown Kansas City that still stands today.  Leah retired again from government service in 2001.

Leah enjoyed her life, loved her husband, family and friends fiercely and lived each day in the service of God.

Preceding her in death were her parents Esther and Leonard Trammell, her brother Geryl Lee Trammell, husband Herman Provin, Sister Geraldine Kimbel, husband Vernon Jett, and daughter Vanessa Rae Provin.

Surviving Leah is her step-son Douglas Grant Jett Sr. (Sheila) of VA, grandson Grant Jett, and his mother Donna Jett, Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, brother Henry Trammel (Dolores) Ridgeway, MO, Nieces, Esta Sue Pearson, Dixon, CA, Denise Gregg Holts Summit, MO, dear friend Debra Sanning, Lees Summit, MO, great nieces and nephews and her many cherished friends at church and within the community.
