Lowell L. Smith


Lowell Leroy Smith, 86, of Bates City, Missouri, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2018, at his home.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 1st at Church of Christ in Oak Grove, MO; burial in Lone Jack Cemetery, Lone Jack, MO.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Saturday, June 30th at Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Parkinson Foundation, or Crossroads Hospice.

Lowell was born August 15, 1931, in Bates City, Missouri, the son of Roy and Lena Smith.  He lived and farmed in the Bates City and Holden area all his life.  On November 21, 1956, he married Mary Alice Dean at Enon Baptist Church in Pittsville.  Lowell was in the Army for two years, serving in the Korean War.  He worked at Stahl’s and worked the wheat harvest for 2 years.  Lowell was an avid hunter and was a member of the Holden Gun Club for many years.  He served as a Deacon and Elder at the Church of Christ in Oak Grove for many years.

Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, and a son-in-law, Don Wyatt.

His survivors include his wife, Mary Alice of the home; 3 daughters: Gail Osborne (Wendell) of Garden City, MO, Kay Wyatt of Centerview, MO, and Meta Williams (George) of Holden; 2 sons: Ed Smith (Kathy) of Bates City, and Tim Smith (Debbie) of Oak Grove; 16 grandchildren and their spouses; 17 great-grandchildren, with 3 more on the way; 2 great great-grandchildren; sister, Linda Petering (Richard); and a large extended family.
