Mary A. (Cochran) Turner

7/20/1936 – 11/27/2021

Mary passed away November 27, 2021, in her home, after a long battle with heart disease.  She is survived by her children: Bob (Stephanie) Turner of Centerview, MO, Dena (Terry) Craig of Holden, MO, and Crystal (Juan) Turner-Avila of Pittsburgh, PA. Mary was a loving grandma to 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sister Irene Cochran of Belton, PA, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George Cochran and Nancy McDannold; her husband of 48 years Bill Turner, an infant daughter Ginger Turner, three brothers Gene, George and Don Cochran, a great grandson Kaelan Turner, and an infant granddaughter Silvia Avila.

Mary was born in Fowler, CO.  She married Billy Ray Turner on April 9, 1955, and moved to Oak Grove, MO in 1958.  Bill and Mary were partners and owners of the Bill Turner Concrete Construction Company for 45 years.  She also enjoyed showing her champion Basenjis and founded Idlewild Kennels.  She was a member of the American Kennel Club and the Basenji Club of America until her death.  Mary loved antiques and worked part time at Virginia Antiques in Oak Grove, MO.  She was a member of the Oak Grove Historical Society and loved sharing her enthusiasm for history by giving lectures to various groups.

Most of all, Mary enjoyed cooking for her friends and family and working in her yard on her beautiful flowers. She loved her family, her neighbors, and her community.  Mary will be missed by so many.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Mary requested donations to the Historical Society of Oak Grove, 1300 S Broadway, Oak Grove, MO 64075.

  1. So very sorry for your loss. Mary was our Brownie or Girl Scout leader. I couldn’t be at a meeting where we were making a gift for our fathers for Father’s Day. She made a special time for me to make my dad’s gift. She was a very thoughtful person. That moment has always held a special place in my heart. Thinking of all you.
