Mary Eleanor Stanton, 97, of Oak Grove, Missouri passed away on November 18, 2024. Visitation will be 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Saturday May 10, 2025 at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley, Missouri. Memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Inurnment will be 11:00 a.m. Monday May 12, 2025 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Kansas City, Kansas. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to: Autism Speaks or Cherokee Nation Angel Project.
Mary was born August 1, 1927 in Shamrock, Oklahoma to John H. Griggs and Elva Eleanor (Jones) Griggs. She had a great love for children and worked as a Montessori school teacher. She worked closely with the nuns to make her way through nursing school. At one time Mary worked at the Jones Store in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. Mary was proud of her heritage; she was Cherokee Indian.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Stanton in 2019; son, Alan Stanton in 2022; and several siblings.
Mary is survived by son, Mick Stanton (fiancé Cathy Wilsher) of Naples Fl; daughter, Pam Osborn (Terry) of Glendale, AZ; brother, Jack Griggs (Janet) of Oklahoma; brother Larry Griggs (Loretta) of Lee’s Summit MO; sister Kay Travis of Arizona; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
